• Panel to study feasibility of periodic performance reviews of Delhi University staff

  Delhi University has set up a nine-member committee to examine the feasibility of implementing periodic performance reviews of its employees. This is in line with a central govt notification that allows premature retirement of staff deemed underperforming or lacking integrity. The panel, headed by executive council (EC) member Indra Mohan Kapahi, will assess whether such a policy can be adopted within the university framework.

  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday highlighted the achievements of the state's flagship 'Project Alankaar' for revamping government schools at the NDA Chief Ministers' conclave in Delhi, an official statement said. The initiative received widespread appreciation at the conclave chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many of the chief ministers expressed interest in replicating it in their states, the statement said.

  ​The contentious provision, which was deemed to have received Supreme Court's assent based on its ruling defining gubernatorial powers, triggered a rare presidential reference recently and a renewed Centre-state power tussle. The bench of Justice G R Swaminathan and Justice V Lakshminarayanan passed the interim orders on a PIL filed by advocate K Venkatachalapathy, challenging the amendments on the ground that these were contrary to the objectives of UGC regulations and functions.

  ​The new guidelines state only students from schools run by the same management and located on the same premises as the junior colleges, will be eligible for in-house quota seats. Many junior colleges in the city, which also have schools run by the same management, do not operate from the same premises. They are either in the vicinity or a few kilometres away. The move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
