Hi Team,

I see it in the Doc ID 2911374.1

https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_afrLoop=479425835871802&id=2911374.1&_afrWindowMode=0&_adf.ctrl-state=2plabzyqe_4

that "The Portal Path Variable Does Not Populate The Start Page In Oracle Analytics Server (OAS)".

we upgraded to OAS, now as this feature is deprecated and planned for desupport in a future update.

In OBIEE 12c we are using portal path to navigate to the custom landing page.

How should we handle this situation.

Thanks!

  • Hi @Karthi_obiee ,

In OAS, you can set the PortalPath in the Console > System Settings page. This setting will be applied to all users when accessing Classic Analytics.

As an alternative, each user is able to set a different starting page. In Classic Analytics, they have to click on their profile icon > My Account and update the Starting Page value.

  • Adding to Federico:

In the Console you can define the initial page by application role, this gives you a flexibility and configuration that for most cases is enough to replace the fully dynamic PortalPath variable that you had before. If you look at the doc linked in the MOS document you referenced above, you see an example.

  • As noted by Gianni and Federico, the recommended approach is to do this via system settings or My Account as this feature will eventually go away. A stop gap is to follow instructions in Doc ID 2622528.1 How To Enable Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) Deprecated Features That Are Disabled By Default to edit the incubation.properties file.

  • Recent OAS version "auto-apply" changes. In the past there was even a button to restart the required components. Now it's a black box: no idea when it does restart what and when your changes are applied for real.

The easiest is to change the settings in the page, make sure they are saved there and then do a manual restart of the required components.

  • Certain settings are auto applied, but for certain settings, Apply needs to clicked (When you click Apply, behind the scene it restarts obis or obips depending on the setting). Since you are using onprem, you can manually restart components and test to make sure the setting is in effect.

I am able to implement the changes and it is working fine.

However for the update to take place I need to restart the server, the Apply button is greyed out to me.

When PortalPath is set in DV and a user preference is set to another Startpage it works fine.

However when the Startpage user preferences is set again to default the Startpage will be Home instead of the PortalPath (in the same browser session). When the browser cache is cleared (or new session) the PortalPath is the Startpage.
