OCI: Unable to increase boot volume size
in Linux
Applies to:
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Linux x86-64
Symptoms
The instance is a “custom” instance, and an attempt was made to increase the size of the boot volume filesystem, while the change has been made at the OCI Console successfully, it is impossible to increase the size at the OS level.
Cause
The Launch options for the instance show that the boot volume type is IDE:
Solution
Resizing IDE type boot volumes is not supported. This applies to both offline and online resizing. To workaround this limitation, you can do one of the following:
1) Terminate the VM instance, ensuring that you keep the boot volume when you terminate the instance. Resize the boot volume that you have kept, and then launch a new VM instance, using the resized boot volume as the image source.
